History of Tiruttani Temple

Great Tamil Divine spirituals and poets, like Nakkeerar, Pamban Samigal, Kumaragurudaa Swamigal, Vadaloor Ramalinga Adigalar, Kandappa Desigar, Kachiyappa Munivar, kachiyappa Sivacharyar, Arunagirinadhar, Muthuswamy Dhikshithar praised Tiruttani Muruga with their poems and kirthanas. Nakkeerar, a great' divine tamil poet of Sangam period, who lived about 2000 years ago, wrote poetic verses called "Thirumurugatruppadai". He sung in praise of the 6 abodes of Lord Muruga in his book. they are (1) Thiruapparangundram (Thriupparengiri) 2) Thiruchendur (Thiruseeralaivai) 3) Palani (Thiruavinankudi) 4) Swamymalai (Thiruveragam) 5) Tiruttani (Kundruthoradal) 6) Pazhamudircholai.

Lord Muruga in his fifth abode, Tiruttani, reigns blessings to his; divotees with his consorts Valli and Devasenai. Valli is his Itcha Sakthi, (i.e., will power) and Devasena is his Kriya sakthi (ie his power of action).

Lord Muruga's marriage with his kriya sakthi (power of action) took place at Thirupparankundram, likewise, he married his Itcha sakthi (will power Valli at Tiruttani.

In Hindu culture, Devotees at times of crisis, illness, poverty, or for want of fulfillment of desires, will pray the Lord to bless them and fulfill their needs which is named as prarthana or prayer and in turn after fulfillment, they submit their offerings to him and worship with devotion aid dedication. Such actions are very popular in Prarthana sthalas. Tiruttani is one of the most important Prarthana Sthalas in Tamil Nadu.

As a symbol of thanks giving, lakhs and lakhs of devotees carry "Paal Kavadi" (Milk Kavadies) and "Pushpa Kavadies" (Flower Kavadies) as per their prayer or Prarthana. - Kavadi is a long stick fitted with bells and baskets at the two ends. In this baskets, devotees carry flowers and other worshipping materials from their homes to the abode of the Lord, wearing yellow coloured clothes. Lord, Muruga blesses - his devotees from Tiruttani when they pray him for help. More and more visiting devotees actually experienced their fullfillment of prayers or Prarthanas and hence, from all over india, and from Malayasia, Singapore devotees daily come to Tiruttani to offer Milk Kavadi and flower Kavadi and worship Lord Muruga.
