When you book a ticket, either your ticket is
* conformed
* RAC
* waiting list
if its confirmed, then no problems at all.
RAC means you can get a place to sit, but not the complete seat to lie down, coz you will be sharing it. You are in the queue, and if someone cancels, you will get the complete berth
Waiting is the next status. Once confirmed and RACs are cleared, next queue is of waiting list people, and they get seats if enough people cancelled their tickets
